David G. Plant

Having joined Plant in 1961, David has over 50 years of experience in construction beginning with fieldwork as a carpenter, carpenter foreman, and superintendent. He later advanced to project and production manager and ultimately, succeeded Tom Plant in 1979 as president and general manager of Plant’s predecessor company Plant Builders, Inc. Almost 20 years later, he spearheaded the creation of Plant’s limited partnership in order to ensure the success of the company for years to come. Over the years, David developed a reputation for client service working with private schools and other nonprofits throughout San Francisco.

Craig Allison

Craig has more than 35 years of experience leading construction and construction management teams on complex projects in the Bay Area and in many other parts of the country. Notable projects completed under his leadership include San Francisco landmarks such as the Ferry Building, the Flood Building, and the Contemporary Jewish Museum. He also managed the renovation of the Reliance Building in Chicago, and led construction of the Market Common urban lifestyle centers in Arlington, Virginia and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Craig was named Vice President of Plant Construction in 1985 and has been a Principal of the Company since 1990. He has served, with David Plant, as General Partner of Plant Construction Company, L.P. since its founding in 1998. In addition to his construction industry involvement, Craig has served on Urban Land Institute and International Conference of Shopping Centers (ICSC) panels, was a former director of San Francisco Architectural Heritage, is a member of the Lambda Alpha honorary real estate society, and is on the board of Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco.

Chris Rivielle, LEED AP

As the fifth President in Plant’s history, Chris is the first to join the company from the outside. He succeeded John Wilson as the firm’s President and Chief Executive Officer in March 2015. Chris brings more than two decades of experience in the New York construction industry. During his career, he has worked closely with a broad range of clients, including Moody’s, Bloomberg, and Citigroup. His experience includes sales, project management, contract negotiation, and lease consulting and management.

Chris obtained his bachelor’s degree in Architecture and an MBA from the New York Institute of Technology. He most recently worked for Tishman Construction in New York as Senior Vice President, responsible for development and management of corporate interiors. Prior to joining Tishman in 2011, Chris was a Senior Managing Director at Newmark Knight Frank. also in New York. He spent seven years at Structure Tone as a Vice President and Project Executive, and also worked as a Project Manager and Superintendent at Turner Construction.

Under Chris’ leadership, Plant has been recognized on Engineering News-Record’s Top 100 Construction Managers at-Risk list for the U.S., and Top 10 renovation contractor in California. The San Francisco Business Times named Chris one of the Most Admired CEOs in 2020, recognized Plant as one of the Fastest Growing Private Companies in 2021, and as one of the Best Places to Work in 2023.

Jeff VanDeWyngaerde

Prior to joining Plant in 1996, Jeff had 12 years of experience as an Asset Manager and Executive in the commercial real estate industry. He hired and managed the delivery of construction services for clients in the Bay Area and was an active member of both the International Council of Shopping Centers and Urban Land Institute, achieving the designation of CCIM. During his career at Plant, Jeff has worked as an Estimator, Project Manager, and Construction Executive on projects spanning renovations, interiors, and new construction. As Operations Manager, he is responsible for hiring Estimators, Project Managers, and Field Supervisors. Jeff also oversees the project management, safety, and estimating departments and researches and implements new operations technologies and systems for the entire company.

Brian Main, LEED AP

Brian has over 30 years of management experience in the commercial building industry. His experience as a Construction Manager, Senior Project Manager, and Operations Manager make him a valuable resource on complex projects where multiple stakeholders need to work closely together for a successful outcome. As a former Director at UC Berkeley, Brian has extensive experience in higher education and sports complexes. His other expertise includes high-rise construction, transportation, hospitality, aviation/aerospace, and applying his LEED accreditation to environmentally sustainable buildings.

With more than 20 years of finance and construction accounting experience, Ty Weiss joined Plant in 2021 from AECOM Hunt and Leeding Builders Group, where he oversaw accounting, controllership, financial planning and analysis, risk management, and mergers and acquisitions as CFO. Prior to joining AECOM, Ty began his career in public accounting with PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

Phil, a registered architect, has nearly 30 years of design and construction experience. Prior to joining Plant in 1999 as an Assistant Project Manager, he was a designer for a local firm with an emphasis on affordable and special user housing. With a wealth of experience in design and MEP coordination, he brings a talent for realizing the architectural intent and functionality of the building systems to each of his projects. While Phil has delivered commercial office, high-rise residential projects, higher education, and historic renovation project, his passion is working collaboratively with K-12 and affordable housing clients to guide them through the intricacies of delivering highly functional, usable space within a limited budget.

Greg has more than 30 years of construction experience with balanced focus as a Project Executive and Preconstruction Manager on adaptive re-use of base building core and shell, corporate office, hospitality, retail/mixed-use, and multi-unit residential. As Director of Preconstruction, Greg is responsible for leading efforts in project planning, field surveys, site evaluation and logistics planning, budgeting, cost control, procurement, virtual modeling and BIM, BIM 5D estimating, and constructability reviews. Greg takes a proactive role in providing clients and project teams with information necessary to make reliable business decisions during projects’ design and procurement cycles.

James Elliott, PE, LEED AP BD+C

James Elliott joined Plant in 2016 with background in civil engineering design, consulting, and construction management. As an introduction to the general contracting side, he started his career at Plant in the Estimating Department and proceeded to Senior Project Manager before transitioning to Operations Manager.

Prior to joining Plant, he played a key role as a Professional Engineer on the new SF-Oakland Bay Bridge and contributed to the structure’s seismic integrity investigation. Before relocating to the Bay Area in 2014, he assisted with the civil design for large commercial solar plants and mixed-use developments in Southern California.

James is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and served as a Jumpmaster on the Wings of Blue Parachute Team. As a civil engineering Officer in the Air Force, James led major infrastructure projects in Afghanistan and supported air base operations in Guam and Las Vegas.

For over two decades, Mat has worked with owners, general contractors, and project teams on small- to mega-sized projects and as a corporate Safety Director managing Health, Safety, and Environmental programs. Having started his career as a carpenter and working his way up, he understands the interdisciplinary relationship of each trade, and works with dynamic teams to mitigate risks and provide smart solutions. Stressing a culture of continuous improvement, Mat enables field staff to succeed through training and development, motivation, and supportive oversight on each Plant job sites.

Mat is an active participant in several affiliations, boards, and committees, and helps define best practices within the industry.
